WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – Feb. 18, 2025 – ITI Engineering, a leading provider of mission-critical data transfer systems, today announced release of their Space Mass Storage Device (SMSD), a radiation-mitigated, high-capacity storage solution. The SMSD is specifically designed to support satellite-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions in low Earth orbit (LEO) and other memory-intensive edge processing technologies operating in radiation-intense environments.
With up to 16 terabytes of storage, industry-leading read/write speeds, and 20 kilorad total ionizing dose (TID) resistance, the SMSD ensures secure, high-speed data transfer in extreme operational environments. The 3U OpenVPX form factor integrates seamlessly into mission-critical systems, providing advanced error detection, self-reboot capability and optional AES-256 encryption for enhanced security.
“The ability to store and process large volumes of mission data in space and high-altitude environments is critical to modern aerospace and defense operations,” said Kevin Speed, President of ITI Engineering. “With the release of the new Space Mass Storage Device, we are delivering the highest capacity, radiation-resistant storage solution for LEO applications, ensuring warfighters and mission operators have reliable, high speed data storage even in the harshest, most challenging operational environments.”
The SMSD provides read speeds up to 3,500 MB/s and write speeds up to 3,000 MB/s, all while maintaining a low power consumption of less than 10 watts. Its Space VPX (VITA 78) compatible profile ensures seamless integration into existing systems, while its ruggedized design meets GSFC-STD-7000B standards for shock, vibration, acceleration and temperature tolerance.
